In north-eastern Nigeria and the Lake Chad region, eight years into the insurgency by extremist group Boko Haram, the humanitarian crisis is one of the most severe in the world today. 8.5m people are in need of humanitarian assistance in 2017 in the worst-affected states of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe, with 6.9m targeted for humanitarian assistance. Restoring stability and hope for the future is a huge challenge.
