United Nations – On 16th April 2016, an earthquake registering 7.8 magnitude on the Richter scale struck the South American nation of Ecuador. Hundreds of people died, thousands remain unaccounted for, and hundreds of thousands more are lacking life’s basic necessities. According to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) more than 150,000 children have been affected, and the World Food Programme is flying in rations in a desperate bid to save lives.
