Malala Yousafzai was shot and almost killed by Taliban militants in Pakistan on her way home from school, yet her survival only made her a greater global advocate for universal education. The United Nations declared 12th July ‘Malala Day’ on her 16th birthday, in honour of her courage and determination, and for inspiring others to speak out for their rights.
